Calories Matters

Everyday I need to eat at least three meals -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyday I take snacks too. My snacks include fruits, tidbits, sweets, jellies, etc.

Have you ever wonder why some people are fat while some are thin? Some of my friends are very thin even though I can see they eat a lot. Some of my friends are obese. They tell me they are dieting. They tell me they don't eat a lot. I don't want to be like them, overweight. Being overweight is unhealthy and people tend to laugh at fat people too. I do not like it at all. I just want to be normal, average weight, not too thin and not too fat.

Maintaining the weight we want is dependent on the food we take in everyday. All food has different amount of calories in them. For my weight and size, I can afford a daily calorie of about 1300 cal. If I want to gain more weight I can take a daily cal up to 1500cal. If however I want to lose little weight, I would try to cut down my calorie intake into a daily of approximately 1100cal. I do not want anything to be extreme. Dieting gradually or putting on little weight gradually should be the right way. This is to allow time for the body to adjust.

Right now, I am just maintaining my body weight. I do not want to increase or decrease anymore. Everyday I have to take note of what I have eaten, their calories and then I have to do a calorie calculation -- adding up all the amount of calories I had taken so far for the day. Some times by lunch I had already taken about 1000 calories! That seems impossible but it is. When my appetite is very good, or when I am stressful, I can eat a lot -- during meal times or in between meals as in snacking. If I had consume too much calories, like this case, then I try to cut down my calorie intake during dinner time and try not to take supper too. But it is difficult when we need to face the sight of delicious food when it is meal time again.

So at times no matter how well you had planned, how well you know the fact that how much calories you can take, it is hard to stick to it -- especially when tempted with nice food. Then we would always say to ourselves 'Never mind, just a little more. I am not overweight anyway! I can afford to take in more food.' This kind of thinking is dangerous, it has no discipline. I might get fat gradually without knowing.

When counting calories, you need to take into consideration how much energy you have expended for the day too. For example what sort of exercise had you done for the day. Sleeping as in taking nap also expend energy. So keeping records will be easier if counting calories, otherwise I have a hard time recalling what I did.

Having a calorie counter helps a person to achieve the kind of weight they want. MyFitnessPal is a free diet and fitness website. Their calorie counter is fast and easy to use and they will teach you the nutritional contents of what you are eating, and consequently, how you can make better food choices. www.MyFitnessPal.com is truly 100% free - no credit card is ever required.

Having Babies

Not everyone is has the ability to give birth to baby. People who cannot have babies are called infertile.

It is usual for a woman to consult the doctor first when pregnancy fails to occur after the couple had tried for a period of time. This is because the woman is the one going to carry the growing baby in her uterus for the nine months of pregnancy.

During the first visit to the doctor, information and fact finding is always the norm. Doctors will find out about the woman's past operations, illnesses, her present health, her menstrual history, duration of her menstruation, and so on. The doctor also will ask about the couple's sexual habits. It was found out in several surveys of infertile couples that one percent sexual intercourse had not taken place properly, and the woman was still a virgin! It was no wonder that no pregnancy resulted!

There are other various reasons for couples to be infertile, besides the earlier mentioned of 'incorrect' sexual intercourse. Timing plays an important part. For successful fertilization, the healthy and active sperm needs to meet the egg during ovulation. However, some males fail to manufacture enough sperm, or they may have weak sperm, or they fail to even ejaculate at all.

The male may be the cause of infertility in some married couples. In others, the woman is the cause of infertility. Some woman fails to produce an egg at all, while some others have irregular production of eggs. Without the egg, pregnancy cannot occur at all. Still in some woman, despite having normal eggs production, their oviduct may be block.

To correct the problems of infertility in couples, doctors carried out the complicated technique of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Other methods of solving infertility issues includes AID (artificial insemination of a donor's semen) if the man is found to be sterile. To find out more about fertility or infertility visit Fertility at Thumos Health Center. At Thumos Health Center, Bryan Abel and Ganit Kriel invest wholeheartedly in their fertility patients' well-being. Thumos Health Center has made great gains in the area of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Bryan Abel and Ganit Kriel work in conjunction with local fertility centers to help treat IVF patients. Obstetrician-gynecologist specialists have begun to recognize the effectiveness of an integrated Eastern/Western approach to their patients' fertility.

Infertility investigations take time and pose problems. The couple must co-operate fully and seek the help of specialised doctor like that of Thumos Health Center, the sponsor of this post. In some cases of infertility, the couples have no physical abnormalities at all. Their inability to have babies is sometimes due to stress. Find out how Thumos health center can make use of Oriental Medicine to help bring vitality back into life!

Rei Shi

Ever since the dawn of traditional medicine, ReiShi, also known as LingZhi, has been regarded as a rare herb of marvelous efficacy. Scientifically, this unique family of mushroom is known as
Ganoderma lucidum. The health-enhancing values of ReiShi are believed to have been known since the reign of emperor Fuxi, a legendary ruler of the great antiquity of China.

The natural source of ReiShi in the wilderness is extremely scarce and its quality fluctuates. To find ReiShi in ancient times, herbalists had to go high up on mountains and deep into the forests to harvest this most valuable medicine. ReiShi was so valued that it was used exclusively by emperors, their concubines, and high-ranking government officers of ancient China.

Cultivation was attempted since time immemorial in China but did not give satisfactory results in terms of quality and quantity. It was only until 1971 when a Japanese researcher, Yikio Naoi from Kyoto University, found feasible ways for large-scale cultivation of ReiShi. Since the introduction of his method, the production of ReiShi raised more than 10 folds. Today, an estimated 4300 tons of cultivated ReiShi are being produced yearly in various parts of the world.
