Rei Shi



Ever since the dawn of traditional medicine, ReiShi, also known as LingZhi, has been regarded as a rare herb of marvelous efficacy. Scientifically, this unique family of mushroom is known as
Ganoderma lucidum. The health-enhancing values of ReiShi are believed to have been known since the reign of emperor Fuxi, a legendary ruler of the great antiquity of China.

The natural source of ReiShi in the wilderness is extremely scarce and its quality fluctuates. To find ReiShi in ancient times, herbalists had to go high up on mountains and deep into the forests to harvest this most valuable medicine. ReiShi was so valued that it was used exclusively by emperors, their concubines, and high-ranking government officers of ancient China.

Cultivation was attempted since time immemorial in China but did not give satisfactory results in terms of quality and quantity. It was only until 1971 when a Japanese researcher, Yikio Naoi from Kyoto University, found feasible ways for large-scale cultivation of ReiShi. Since the introduction of his method, the production of ReiShi raised more than 10 folds. Today, an estimated 4300 tons of cultivated ReiShi are being produced yearly in various parts of the world.

Reishi has anti-inflammatory properties which allow it to positively affect the respiratory system. It is great for battling allergies or bronchitis, and it can reduce the blood pressure issues related to hypertension. reishi’s high concentration of polysaccharides, which are linked to aiding cancer remission; acting as hypoglycemic agents; and strengthening the immune system. Reishi also scavenges free radicals, which retard aging and promote general healthfulness on a systemic, cellular level. Finally, it is known to protect the liver and help instill calmness.
