Toilet Appreciation

In order to appreciate what we have now, perhaps we should look back at the life of ancient people.

Went to Jurong Bird Park and saw this little hut at the Lory Loft. It is a little hut that depicts how forest workers lived in the Australian outback in the early days. During the day, they felled large trees and hauled logs out of harsh forests. At night, they gathered for a hearty meal of damper bread and 'billy tea'.

Life in the Outback

Dunny (Bush Toilet) is an Australian slang for outdoor toilet. Traditionally, dunnies were found in areas with no proper sewerage. They were found wooden sheds with a seat placed over a dunny-can or a deep hole (cesspit). Dunny cans were collected, emptied and replaced weekly by contractors hired by local town council. Dunnies are still being used in some remote campsites and nature trails!

Dunny is just the same as our toilet in Early Singapore, where people need to collect these human wastes (placed in buckets) for disposal. One can imagine how smelly and unhygienic it was when there are no flushing system (sanitation development) at all back then. Flies were flying around, together with bad smelling air! Today, we are so lucky to have clean toilets.

Imagine there are only one bush toilet in the whole village. Each time, you have to queue up for the usage of the toilet. After one person had done their 'business' (pass motion), the next person went in. Everything (feaces or urine) were contained in container (buckets or dunny-can). Each person who went into the toilet had to bare with the bad smell in the toilet, regardless of whether you are doing 'big business' (pass motion) or 'small business'(urination).

In this modern society where people are going to school and have better education and housing, we have betterbathrooms in public places as well as at homes. We should never take things for granted, but how do we get here. Despite going to school and having a better education system, we still see dirty toilets, smelly air lingering around the toilets. Why is this so?

Nurture plays a role in offering various opportunities for exploration and movement, and in modulating the pace and perhaps the style with which motor behaviours are expressed. The social context can either subdue and temper or evoke and encourage the way babies maneuver through their environment.

At birth, an infant's voluntary muscle responses are poorly coordinated. Most early motor responses appear to be reflexive, meaning that a specific stimulus will evoke a particular motor response without any voluntary control or direction. Many of these built-in responses help infants survive and lead them to developing more complicated sequences of voluntary behaviour. For example, the sucking reflex.

Babies have been shown to use their mouths to explore objects that they can identify visually. Babies' reflexes include sucking, grasping, rooting(turning the head in the direction of the cheek that is stroked), coughing and stepping. Voluntary reaching begins as the child tries to make contact with objects on the same side of the body as the outstretched hand. By 4 months babies will reach for objects placed on the same side, the opposite side, or in the middle of the body. By this age, babies have also become skilled in using both hands to hold an object, so that they are more able to keep the object close enough to investigate. Between 5-7 months, babies become increasingly accurate at reaching and grasping a moving object, alternating hands to intercept an object by anticipating the direction of its movement. By 12 months, babies have mastered the pincer grasp, using the index finger and thumb to pick tiny things. With this advance, they can also manipulate things by lifting latches, turning knobs, and placing small things inside bigger things and trying to get them out again. These activities give the baby new information about how object work and how they relate to one another.

Hey everybody, check out this cool site Quibblo.com, a brand new website, where users can create and share their own polls, quizzes, surveys, and personality tests. I have signed up as a member with them. Signing up is fast and easy. Upon signing up, I immediately received the confirmation email. After which I login to my account and I can see four cool things which I can create -- create poll, survey, quiz and category!

After I had signed in, I create my profile and I can choose to take quiz or create quiz. It is so exciting and I cannot wait to try it out. I like to create quiz and I tried to create quiz first. I like the poll best and below is what I have created. I like to gather information and this is just what I want to find out what people view about schooling.

After I had done with this poll, I tried taking quiz. There are Tag Cloud and a list of recent quiz and popular quiz for you to take. My poll was listed in there too. I browse through the list and I saw this, 'Was Shrek the Third as Good as the the First Two?' I click on "No" and to my amazement, there was a absolute 100% 'No' to this poll!

Next I tried the popular quiz. I click on 'What is the first thing you do after starting up your computer?'. I thought this is very interesting. My answer is open my web browser. I was excited about seeing the answers. I want to see how everybody did generally. The answer is interesting. Majority of people(41%) check their email and second being opening the browser(22%). The others is not of interest to me.

I think this is really a good site, a place to have fun and have your curiosities answered. I am definitely going to tell my sister and friends about it.

Reading comics is fun. There are times where I am just too tired to read too many words from story books, novels, encyclopedia, news, textbooks and so on, and I just take out some comics books to read. Reading comics is fun and relaxing.

There are many types of comic books. There are cartoons, romance, fantasy, adventurous, 'Gung Fu' fighting, horror, and many more. There are people who read comics and at the same time, they collect them. Some old comics such as Richie Rich has 'antique' values. As for me, I buy comic books just for reading and to enjoy them. I do not have the habit of collecting comic books.

Some comics are more serious while some are very humourous and hilarious. The comic books which I have at home are Crush Gear, Pokemon, Beyblade, Vampire Knight, and Zatch Bell. I also have some Chinese Comic Books which are very humourous and fun to read too. I enjoy reading comic books and I can finish one book within a day.

There is a comic book, Rostam Comic Book which I think is very fun and interesting. I like Prince of Persia. I have Prince of Persia I(Warrior Within) and II (The Sands of Time) at home. I like to play the X-box games. Now there is new Prince of Persia III (Rival Swords) too. I like platform games like Prince of Persia. I am sure if there are Prince of Persia Comic Book, it would be nice too. For anyone who like Prince of Persia, I think they will like Rostam Comic Book. Rostam Comic Book is an adaptation of the tales from the Shahnameh into the American Comic book format. It shows Persian Mythological Heros brought to life in a graphic novel. This is a picture of the chinese herb, cordyceps. In the past, people need to buy them in Traditional Chinese Medical Shops to brew the herbs for consumption. Nowadays people can easily buy cordyceps in capsules form.

Calories Matters

Everyday I need to eat at least three meals -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everyday I take snacks too. My snacks include fruits, tidbits, sweets, jellies, etc.

Have you ever wonder why some people are fat while some are thin? Some of my friends are very thin even though I can see they eat a lot. Some of my friends are obese. They tell me they are dieting. They tell me they don't eat a lot. I don't want to be like them, overweight. Being overweight is unhealthy and people tend to laugh at fat people too. I do not like it at all. I just want to be normal, average weight, not too thin and not too fat.

Maintaining the weight we want is dependent on the food we take in everyday. All food has different amount of calories in them. For my weight and size, I can afford a daily calorie of about 1300 cal. If I want to gain more weight I can take a daily cal up to 1500cal. If however I want to lose little weight, I would try to cut down my calorie intake into a daily of approximately 1100cal. I do not want anything to be extreme. Dieting gradually or putting on little weight gradually should be the right way. This is to allow time for the body to adjust.

Right now, I am just maintaining my body weight. I do not want to increase or decrease anymore. Everyday I have to take note of what I have eaten, their calories and then I have to do a calorie calculation -- adding up all the amount of calories I had taken so far for the day. Some times by lunch I had already taken about 1000 calories! That seems impossible but it is. When my appetite is very good, or when I am stressful, I can eat a lot -- during meal times or in between meals as in snacking. If I had consume too much calories, like this case, then I try to cut down my calorie intake during dinner time and try not to take supper too. But it is difficult when we need to face the sight of delicious food when it is meal time again.

So at times no matter how well you had planned, how well you know the fact that how much calories you can take, it is hard to stick to it -- especially when tempted with nice food. Then we would always say to ourselves 'Never mind, just a little more. I am not overweight anyway! I can afford to take in more food.' This kind of thinking is dangerous, it has no discipline. I might get fat gradually without knowing.

When counting calories, you need to take into consideration how much energy you have expended for the day too. For example what sort of exercise had you done for the day. Sleeping as in taking nap also expend energy. So keeping records will be easier if counting calories, otherwise I have a hard time recalling what I did.

Not everyone is has the ability to give birth to baby. People who cannot have babies are called infertile.

It is usual for a woman to consult the doctor first when pregnancy fails to occur after the couple had tried for a period of time. This is because the woman is the one going to carry the growing baby in her uterus for the nine months of pregnancy.

During the first visit to the doctor, information and fact finding is always the norm. Doctors will find out about the woman's past operations, illnesses, her present health, her menstrual history, duration of her menstruation, and so on. The doctor also will ask about the couple's sexual habits. It was found out in several surveys of infertile couples that one percent sexual intercourse had not taken place properly, and the woman was still a virgin! Chicken Little flies at box office

Chicken Little, Disney's first fully computer-animated movie to be made without the help of long-term partners Pixar, made a better-than-expected $40.1m (£23m) to top the US box office at the weekend.

The film, which has received a lukewarm critical reception in the States, did better than Disney's own estimate of $30m but its opening was still significantly less impressive than recent Pixar offerings like The Incredibles, Finding Nemo or Monsters, Inc.

The tale of a talking chicken who believes the sky is going to fall in was always going to be compared to those movies because of Disney's long-running partnership with the computer animation specialists, which expires next year.

Little is voiced by Scrubs' Zach Braff, with Jon Cusack and Patrick Stewart providing support. Chuck Viane, the company's president of domestic theatrical distribution, described the figures as "pretty neat". "The public votes with their wallets and this is an affirmation that funny is money," he said.

In Episode 41 of EXE, everyone's navis are transformed into nekos (cats) due to a virus that's been let loose in the virus world. Both Netto and Meiru are quite shocked when they experience Rockman and Roll's transformations firsthand. ^_^; Don't they look cute together?! During battle, Rockman style changes to Elec-Brother and borrows one of Roll's hearts to perform the "Heart Slash!" attack. Silly, but cute. ^_^
